Using a paper cutter to cut patches
« on: April 20, 2004, 07:22:16 AM »
I have not seen anyone mentioning using an office paper cutter to cut patches. I lost my templates that I used for years, so rather than make new ones I decided to try the paper cutter. I cut 5-6 sheets at a time--no more than that. I start by stapling the end of the sheets all th way across the end of the paper, one staple per strip. I cut strips the length of the patch. Since my patches are a paralellagram, I have lines drawn on the cutter board that give me a 35 degree angle  when I cut end of the patch. All you have to do is mark various patch lengths you would use. Very careful attention has to be paid to how you hold the paper when trimming the ends. I can cut stacks of patches in just a few minutes that are as good as those cut with a template.

I didn't know there was any other way!!!  I make a heavy cardboard template and from there the office paper cutter goes to work.  Would dream of scissors.

GOOFED!  Should be "wouldn't dream of scissors". Sorry about that, mind works faster than fingers.
