hello to everybody on the board, im new to this site, got a few

?s for the huntsman pro"s, me and my two buddies all have huntsmans, and this weekend we took them out to my pals sandpit in new hampshire to do some shooting. all guns shot very well at about 50yrds open sights, we all managed to keep good 2 inch groupings, used cva295pwbelts on top of 2 50gr pyro pellets very happy with that, but my buddies huntsman after 10 shots would open on its own after letting a round fly. kind of scary.. has anybody had this happen to them?

the gun stays closed when not being fired, i tried with everything i had to open it when not being fired and could not open it, but as soon as the gun goes off the barrel would open. any of you have any answers to what could be wrong... looking forward to hearing from ya all , later the beefa :?

Do a search in the NEF/H&R Centerfire Rifle forum for "barrel opens" or "open".
This has been a topic of some discussion in the recent past. The most typical discovery has been that the receiver may still have some leftover debris from manufacturing that has worked its way out to interfere with the barrel lockup..... Even after putting several hundred rounds through my Pardner Tracker II/ shotgun with slugs & trap loads, I can still find some "floaties" :shock: creeping out into the lockup area. And I thought that I'd cleaned it out!!! :roll:

NAPA = Electric brake cleaner!

Wallmark, etc. = 3 in 1 oil..... Should fix your problem...

I had it happen to me over a year ago. I was using the pink teflon tape and couldn't screw the breechplug in far enough. Got rid of the tape, used Tetra Grease, problem gone .

Don't know what changes have been made over the years, but my old .58 had a really cheap latch spring.

this is the sort of situation where I wouldn't hesitate to send the rifle back with a note of explanation. I'm sure NEF would be more than happy to straighten this out to your satisfaction. Just provide your load info and ask them to test fire it a number of times. My guess is that the recoil is actually compressing the release spring and unlocking the barrel after the shot is long downrange.

Question? Is your buddies Huntsman a new model NEF, or an old H&R? If it's a NEF send it back for repair. If it's an H&R hang it on the wall and admire it.
