.223 or .22 BR?

I have a bad case of barrelitis, I'm having lots of fun with my .454 Casull in my Encore, but I want something that hits a little less and a little further out.  I'd like one of these two calibers in a 16 1/4" barrel so it could be used as a pistol or a rifle set-up legally.  Side question:  Do the rifle barrels and forends have a different screw spacing than the pistol barrels and forends?  I have a custom semi-beavertail forend for my .454 Casull and I'd like to use it for my .223 barrel, but I don't know if the screw spacing is the same, someone please shed some light on this subject.  I'm leaning towards the .223 cause brass is dirt cheap, it's a little more efficient, and it isn't very far behind the .22 BR, and I'm not shooting competition, so I probably won't notice a difference in accuracy when I work up pet loads for it.  If anyone would have an opinion I'd love to hear it!

.223 is where i'd go. screw spacing is different. man, you gotta try blue dot powder in the .223!........... sweet! :D

Please tell me more about using Blue Dot in the 223 Contender.  I have a 14" that I have had for 18 years and I really like it.

there are some threads on the accuratereloading site where "seafire" has been testing lot's of blue dot powder, in lot's of different calibers. in the "reloading" section, and also "small caliber".

i load 13.5gr of blue dot with a 40gr nosler bt in my 14" .223. i've chronographed from 3000-3150fps(acording to weather and lighting) with this load. it'll shoot 5 shot 1" groups at 100. recoil is significantly reduced, as is muzzle blast.

pressure does build rapidly, so work up carefully in very small increments. blue dot is kinnda bulky, so it fills the case more than you'd think.

I have had the hums very bad for a 22 K-hornet or the likes and I have tried reduced loads without much sucess.  Never thought about Blue Dot.

This might take care of my Hummm for a light 22 centerfire cartridge.  Since I have a gillion cases and etc for the 223, this is great.
