help with sights
« on: April 30, 2004, 08:36:56 AM »
I've got a couple lever guns that I want to replace some sights on and I would like some "expert opinions".

1) Puma 24" .357 w/Marbles Tang Peep - This one needs a new front sight because that short fat little front blade just doesn't work for me. I'd like to put a Lyman 17a on it but I don't know what height base to use...or if there is a better option.

2) Marlin 39A - I have a Lyman 66MC receiver peep, but I haven't taken the rifle to get it drilled and tapped. I've actually had much success in smallbore cowboy silhouettes with the original sights. I thought about a tang peep, but it looks like it would interfere with my grip. Also what front sight would you put on this gun?

3) Winchester 94 - This one is a NRA commemorative (it's a shooter as I do not have the original box and I'm not sure if the gun has been fired). This one looks to be drilled and tapped for a receiver peep, but I'm not sure if the tang peep is similar to my Puma's which allows for a comfortable placement for my thumb. Opinions? Also any info on the best front sight here too??

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

On the 39A, I left the original front sight on mine for use with the Lyman.

May I suggest that you check the rules for your cowboy shoots before you D&T for the Lyman 66MC.  They may not allow the receiver sight, bu may allow a tang sight.

somebody makes ghost ring sights that fit the factory drilling and tapping on winchester 94's. Marble Arms has a great selection of stock looking but custom performing open and peep sights if you wanted to order them.
If God wanted plastic stocks he would have made plastic trees.
