Got even better deal than I expected"
« on: April 30, 2004, 05:03:46 PM »
Went to my local gun shop to order a standard wood stock Huntsman for whatI thought was a good deal,140.00 out the door. What he had on stock was a Synthetic Huntsman with blued barrel andSimmons 3x9x32 scope  mounted and a foam lined case. 160.00 out the door.Told me it was a limited special HEF was running.Papers in box said only the gun was guranted by NEF, not the scope, I bought it.Think I did OK. Will list range data soon.**********ogo

Sounds like you did OK to me. I may get another Huntsman so I can have one with scope and one without. Some areas will not let you use scopes and still consider them primitive weapons.

Yea, I think I did allright for only 20 bucks more than I was expecting to pay,Here in pa we have a doe only 6day season in late Oct. You can use inlines, cap or flintlock's and now this year crossbow's also. I'm disabled and have what pa call's a permit to use a vehicle as a blind. That means for the last 3 days I can use any firearm I want. Last year I rolled a nice doe with my Buff Classic, what a blast'''' So I bought this gun to use for a day or so,oh well cant't never have enough guns''''Our Premitive season, flintlock only starts after christmas.********ogo  Oh yea don't tell the little woman but I got my eye on a 223 Handi rifle''

I started with a 270 then sent it in and got barrels in 223 bull, 45-70,  and the Huntsman barrel. I think that I will actually buy another rifle so I can send it in for the Huntsman barrel and any others I might want.

rmtaylor, how does thatb 223 bull barrel shoot? thats one thing I'm having a hard time choosing, bull or standard. I even asked that question on the centerfire rifle forum. From what I got it all depended on how much weight you wanted to carry, both had good accuracy.******ogo

ogo, I think you have the best info you can get right now. Both the bull barrel (what I have) and the standard barrel (others have them) shoot great with the right loads and sometimes a bit of tweaking. The big decideing factor should be you and what who are planning to do with it and your personal preferances. An old timer once gave me the best information I have ever been given about buying a piece of land, "Young fella, a piece of land is worth just what it's worth to you, no more, no less", I outbid that fine older gentleman $1.37 per acre on the 128 acre piece of land I bought for my hunting camp, I guess that was what it was worth to me. So in the end get what you want, not what others like....<><....

Ogo...You found a smoking deal...On the regular wood stocked Huntsman you would have had to purchase a scope rail too so that would have raised your cost even more.  Don't forget to add in the cost of the scope.  Even though I already have a Huntsman I would have had a hard time passing on that deal.  Good thing I didn't see it.

I have only shot the bull barrel but it is definitely not too heavy for me to carry around and is really shooting well so far.
