There is a guy, that shoots Black Powder Cartridge Silhouette, that shows up to our monthly matches. Our next one is May 22 at the Nampa Rod & Gun Club, outdoor range. If you are in the area then stop out there and maybe he can get you hoked up.
Now, since I hate to see a good victim slip out of my hands, Have you considered getting started up in either NRA Hunter Pistol or NRA Cowboy Rifle or both.
We have a really good facility at the Nampa Rod & Gun Club. There is a covered firing line and the range is well taken care of. It is minutes away from downtown Boise and anywhere west of Boise is closer.(Most of the population is west of town) There is a great bunch of guys and all we need is more people. We can accommodate 16 people on the firing line and we usually get 6 to 8 at a practice and a couple more than that at a match.
We have 2 practice matches every Thursday night starting at about 6:30 and shoot til dark. Matches are every 2ed to the last Saturday, March through October. In the winter we have our practice matches on the indoor range, every Thursday night.
We are pretty liberal as to what we allow new shooters to shoot. You are safe to bring any 22 rifle and or pistol. This allows you to see if you really want to do this. If you don't have any of the above, we usually have a few extra guns around and you can borrow one to try.
Most of the guys end up with a TC Contender with a 10 to 12 in 22lr match barrel for Small bore Hunter Pistol and a 22 Hornet or 32-20 win for the Hunter Pistol matches.
We started Cowboy Rifle Silhouette 3 years ago. It has really caught on and we have had some 38s and 39s shot on the outdoor range and two guys have got Grand Slams. On the indoor range we have had several 40s. It is nice to not have wind.
The prefered rifles for Small Bore Cowboy Rifle are any of the current manufacture lever action, tubular mag rifles. We have guys using Marlins, Winchesters, and Henrys. Any action, except bolt, with a tube mag is legal. For the Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Rifle, most of the guys are using marlins. Some are using Rossi 92sa and one guy has an original Win 92 rifle in 25-20. Everyone else is using from 38 specials to 45s. The main thing is we all have fun. Again let me say that if you show up with a 10/22 and a big scope, you can shoot. We only stick to the rules in a sanctioned match and the match director would probably still let you shoot along with any type weapon on match day.
Send me a PM and I will give you specific info on how to get ahold of us.
