Marlin sight?
« on: May 01, 2004, 03:45:03 PM »
I have a 70's vintage Marlin 45-70. It has the gold bead front sight. Has anyone ever changed this sight to a narrower sight for finer shooting? I have a receiver sight on the rear. The front sight is perfect for height but to wide. If so do you know the part number or the dovetail width? Thanks
shot placement is everything.

Jim,

Option # 1- You can change the profile of the sight from a bead to a post and accomplish your objective. A post gives a better index of elevation than a bead because of the square top. Use a magnifying glass and file carefully.

Option #2-Go to XS Sight Systems. They will have what you want.

All Marlins use a 3/8" dovetail front and rear.
Check out Brownells web site for various sight options.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of putting a scope on it but it shoots so well with the reciever sights. I was using paper plates for targets the other day but that bead at 100 yards covers the whole plate. My bad shoulder is makink working the lever on my Marlin pretty hard but I love the darn things. I need a 45-70 pump. Those I can work pretty good. I can load my single shots as fast as I can work the lever.
shot placement is everything.
