Im looking for a varmint scope and seen these Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40 dot and wanted some opinions. I can get it for around 250.00. Does anybody know the dot size in this scope? Thanks

That particular Nikon Buckmaster is a new scope and has not been release by Nikon yet. They are looking at somewhere around the end of June the beginning of July. By the specs, it sounds like it is going to be a very nice scope. The 6-18x40 actually has better light transmission than the other buckmaster scopes, 92% verse 88%. I have some catalogs on order and are scheduled to come in today or tomorrow. Once I get them I will let you know on the dot size.

Got my Nikon catalogs yesterday. Here is the information on the size of the dot:

6x 1.29" at 100 yards
18x .43" at 100 yards

What are they saying it is 1/4" or what?

Nikon does not really specify the dot size as 1/4 MOA or 1/8 MOA, they just give the dot size on the target at 100 yards. Another feature that I just noticed is they 1/8" click adjustments, instead of the standard 1/4".

if this new Nikon scope can be had for $265.00 tell me more.i would like one. Natchez Shooters Supply has them listed for $329.00.i would like the one with the fine cross hair

Nikon is only claiming the "new" Buckmasters offer 92% light transmission, which is the 4-12x50 and the 6-18x40. Jeff, Nikon does not offer a fine crosshair in the 6-18x40. Only a Nikoplex and Target Dot.

Jon I stand corrected. I got caught in the "don't believe everything you read" trick. Check out this link and you will see where I got my info from. Scroll down to the middle of the page and look inside the red box above the Buckmasters line. Sorry if I misinformed anyone.

That is no problem. I see that on the Natchez page that Nikon offers a Fine Crosshair 6-18x40. No such scope! Also, it says that the Buckmasters offer 1/4" MOA, but actually the 6-18x40 has 1/8" MOA.

Here is some information from Nikon's website.

Buckmaster 3-9x40: Precision ground and polished optical glass is coated with Nikons exclusive Brightvue for 88% light transmission, super clarity and high resolution

Buckmaster 6-18x40: 92% Light Transmission

This is the same information that Nikon has relayed to me. Hope this helps out.

We do not have any in stock yet. Nikon has not released these scopes yet, actually some time the end of June the first of July. Shipping is $10.95, plus 6% Michigan sales tax. They do not offer a fine crosshair, only the Nikoplex and Target Dot.

Before you buy the Buckmasters scope get a price, the best price optic zone will give you on the 4-16X40 Bushnell elite 4200 series with Rainguard and 95% total light Transmission. ( the Maximum % that can be achieved )
Bear Basin will ship this scope at no charge and no tax for around $300

Not according to their site, I see $339 as the price, where does your info come from? The Optics Zone looks best to me, so far.....

i would like the fine cross hair but i might like the dot if they use the fine cross hair with a small dot.if they use to big of dot i dont want a dot.i will wait to check one out then i will contact you optic zone.

i like the Nikon Monarch target scope with the fine cross hair.the Monarch takes a back seat to no one in the same price range and i mean no one

You can get a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 on Ebay right now for $199. I would buy it, but i just got the 4-12x50.
