Nosler or Hornady
« on: May 02, 2004, 02:54:41 PM »
I am looking at 50 grain balistic tip bullets for a .223.  I have seen that both Nosler makes a CT Balistic tip and Hornady makes a V-Max.  Both are moly coated.  Has anyone found either the nosler or Hornady to be better?  Does it come down to just personal preference?  Cost?

Thanks.

The 50 gr V-max is very accurate out of my 14" Contender barrel.  I do not use the moly coated ones however.  I have no experience with the Noslers.

I believe it does come down to personal preference and cost. The Noslers have a higher ballistic coefficient, but they are also quite a bit more expensive. They are good bullets, though. If you want a great 50 grain bullet for .223, look at the Speer TNT. Excellent performance and low cost.

I've been very impressed with the V-Max.  Very explosive and very accurate.  That's all that I use in my .222 Rem anymore, and I love them.  As stated before, though, I believe that the Noslers are just as accurate, and using one over the other is a matter of personal preference
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

I shoot 50 grain Nosler Bt's and CT BT's in my 223's 15" Encore and Ruger varmiter. My own testing comparing the vmax to the nosler is that the nosler has been more accurate. the Ct's and the noslers shoot exactly alike.

My Contender seems happiest with the Sierra 45gr. It does not like the Hornadays at all. 50gr Sierras and Speers are pretty good.

the cheapest and most effective bullet I've found in both a 14" and 24" contender have been the Hornady 50gr SXSP about 8.50 for a box of 100 My barrel likes these the best.
