I have a Beretta Mato 30-06 rifle that I am looking to mount a scope on. The rifle is to be a general purpose big game rifle. I have narrowed the scope choices down to 2 Ziess Conquests, the 3x9x40 and the 3.5x10x44. Is the 3.5x10x44 worth the extra $100 to $150, or should I go with the 3x9x40? Thanks.

I have the 3.5 x 10 and really like it on my 7mm Sako. My buddy has the 3 x 9 on his 06 and of many scopes it is his favorite. I don't know if I could say that you will notice much difference between the two. For hunting how many times are you going to be above 7 or 8 power (even out west). But for target shooting/sighting in, that is where the 9-10 power shines for a hunting rifle. If I got another Conquest (and I will) it would probably be the 3 x 9. Only because I don't need more magnification than that.

Thanks for the input. I will get the 3x9x40, because of the extra eye relief, and because I think that it is the better value.

I have that exact same scope and let me tell you - it's a great scope!
