Aaaah what a supper tonight :grin: Fixed some elk steaks on the grill, had some freash asparagus, home made bread, and an ice cold Leinenkugel's Original. Man life is good!

The wife and kids all like wild game so it is that much better. My son had his Browning hat hanging on his chair and says dad, is this elk like the one on my hat? We like elk, dont we dad! Yes we do son. My daughter has a big ketchup smile and says how come some people dont eat elk daddy? All I could say is "well honey, thats because they are weird." Every day my son ask to go deer hunting. He is only 3 and doesn't understand the season thing...yet. At least he wants to go. Isnt life grand?

I'm lucky to have have 2 great kids. Dont know what I would do with out them. My daughter who is 5 and small for her age (33 pounds) was going to beat up two older boys at the park yesterday. The boys were first or second graders from what my wife said. Anyway they were making fun of my son who is 3. He had gone down the slide and it was wet so his pants got wet, and the kids were making fun of him saying that he wet his pants. My daughter was gonna slug it out with them for that. :shock: Her favorite shirt really does fit. It says "I may be small, but I hunt big" It has a picture of a big whitetail on it. She calls it her "Big ten buck shirt" :lol: As for dad, I'm just glad she didnt get in the fight.

But I think I would have put my money on your daughter and then worried about explaining how or why my 33 lb, five year old daughter whipped the snot out of a couple of older boys. Well, maybe I would have worried but I probably would have bought her an ice cream cone instead and let the other parents worry about why some 33 pound fightin' fem fatale whipped the snot out of their sons.

Man, I think that even if she came back a bit 'lumped up' I still would have been proud enough to buy her an ice cream cone. That's for sure. Mikey.

I'm for sure proud of her! She stood up for her little brother even in the face of two older kids, she didnt back down. It just would have broke my heart had she gotten hurt. We talked about it and I told her how proud I wa of her for sticking up for her brother. I'm going to Cabelas next weekend and she said she wants a new hunting shirt...she's got it! Brother will probably get one to.

Whoever first said it knew his stuff. I taught both my daughters to fight at an early age, and as a result, the neighborhood boys wouldn't go near them. Now that they're older, they let some of the boys get closer, but they're still on their guard! Makes old Dad proud, and a little less worried about the "Weaker Sex".

Amen to that! Enjoy those kids while you can, Big Med, they'll be teenagers in about a week! :shock:

Interesting I did not know they sold that Chippewa Falls (WI) beer in Nebraska?

I Envy you I never tasted Elk though I heard it is great tasting. The only thing this old WI boy has tasted is the local Venison and Bear. I did try some antalope my brother's wife shot but to be honest I felt it could not touch venison in taste. I have heard moose is great also but never had the chance to try it. I have had Buffalo and it was good but since most of that is farm raised that you get in stores I am not sure on how that taste compared to the wild variety. Jim

Jim you need to get an elk shot!! Matter of fact I just had elk roast for dinner tonight...mmmm was it good! Had a creamy dark lager with it. A lot places out here sell Lineys. One of my best friends is a transplant from Chippewa Falls. I think his brother went to school with Jake the Prez.

This past year we finally finished off the buffalo meat we had. It is good meat, I need to get another one in the freezer. As far as the others go bear, moose, caribou, and sage billygoat (antelope) are all good.

Ya really need to get out and put some of those rifles to work punching hide insted of paper. :lol: Then set back light the grill and enjoy!

I kill enough venison every year to keep me satisfied and yea Elk hunting would be fun but I lived a year in Washington saw what the land is like and I now days am not physically fit to do it. Back then I was I worked out in the woods cutting shake bolts but that was in 76 when I was in my prime now days I could not cut it. Jim

I know what you mean about the in shape part. I have been trying to get my six back in shape. Between running and the nordic track it seems to be working. I did mountain warfare the last two years I was in the military, I'm a long ways from that young man.
