Play Gun Store Manager & Help Me Spend $5000.00 -

Okay, I've been challenged.....

I need to come up with $5000 worth of guns to restock our inventory at the store.  The two criteria are that every gun be appealing to our wide customer base and probably move quickly.

Our customers are CCW holders, Cowboy Action shooters, self-defense commandos, Elk hunters, Varmint hunters, and general "try anything cool" people.

What would YOU like to see in the gun shop?  What's HOT right now among shooters?

Well, what I'd like to see and what is "hot" among shooters are usually different but here is my list:

     1)Standard wood stocked bolt action rifle manufactured by Ruger or  Winchester in 270, 280, or 30/06 (maybe a magnum thrown in for those who desire them);

     2) Bolt short action "mountain rifle" in 260, 7mm/08, or 308;

     3)Marlin lever gun in 45/70

     4)10/22 or Marlin 39A 22LR

     5)An assortment of Browning Citori doubles and BPS shotguns

     6)Combat and match Kimber 1911s

     7)Single six, Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk Rugers;

     8)Every gun in the shop has a left handed or ambi. version along side.

My tastes run to those things which are proven and traditional.  Luckily most are also not terribly expensive as these things go.  I've seen a collection that is similar to the one above somewhere.

Just $5000 :?:
Pistol's- You need a few Glock's, definitely a few 1911's, some wheelgun's especially for the hunter's.
Rifles- You gotta stock a few AR15's, maybe a Ruger mini 14/30 or two. And for the "hard core guy's" DSA's FAL's are nice as are the DPMS Panther 308's. Any of the Remington, Winchester, Ruger or European made bolt action rifles for the hunters out there. Start with something like a 223 Rem. and go up to say 338 Win. mag or 338 Rem ultra mag.
Shotgun's- Remington and Mossberg pump shot guns for the "home defense" guy's. And any of the hunting shotgun's also, pump's, semiauto's, over and under's.

We know what retail is, but what does $5000 actually get you ?
A trusted friend and licensed FFL holder once told me that wholesale on firearms is generally 50 % - around 66% of retail.
So, are we now buying $7500 or $10000 worth of guns with that $5000 ?

Do the store a favor, and put an ad in the local paper stating, "We buy used guns!"
 If you spent $5,000 on new guns, you'd have the same stuff everyone else carries, plus the mark up on new guns (as you probably know) is pretty small.
 If you buy a good selection of used guns from folks answering the ad, you will have a variety that many shops wont have, plus the mark up on used guns is much better, so you'll make a better return for the shop.
 Another bonus is you might sell a new gun to those coming in to sell or trade in their old gun.
