I have a friend that wants to trade me a ruger super readhawk in target grey finish with a 7.5" barrel for a glock 45 mdl. 21. Would the 454 be a good choice for hunting deer out to 50 yards, I have never shot this cal. before.

That sounds like a heck of a good trade to me. And yes thats plenty of pistol for deer at 100+ yds.   KN

I f you have not traded guns yet I would recomand that you ask to shoot it first. The SRH is a real handfull in .454, more than most people want. It will however kill deer as far away as you can hit them.

By all means, shoot a full 454 load so you know what you're getting.  But also remember the 454 can shoot the 45 Long Colt cartridge too.  The 45 LC can be loaded with the original loads, or loaded with the Ruger T/C loadings which are a lot hotter.  The 454 Casull can be downloaded to match the hotter LC loads.  This gives you an infinate range for this cartridge, and makes it a pleasure to shoot.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
