Attendance is up...

at our club. I hear Winnsboro is seeing great pre-entry numbers. In my little corner of the world it "feels" like the sport is growing, especially smallbore. So, I'm asking. Are there more people shooting silhouette in your neck of the woods?

I would shoot smallbore silhouette...if I knew of a place nearby where they shot it.  Actually I do know about an unsanctioned match where they shoot every other month that I have not been to, but I'm seriously considering attending that one.  Anybody know of one near Kansas City?

ajj...  sorry for taking up the distraction of your post but i just have to ask B Koes a question...

Mr. Koes...  you say that you would shoot smallbore silhouett if you knew of someplace nearby that held a match...  then you say that you actually do know of a match but have chosen not to attend...

so...  you say you want to if there is, there is, but you don't.  so...  the question is...  why don't you?

what is holding you back?  what is it that keeps you from going to the match?

i don't mean this to be in any way derogatory.  i think there are probably a lot of folks out there just like you that believe they would like to go to a match but don't.  i'm wondering what hurdle we might address that would make you more inclined just to get in your car and show up?

Davei - Sorry if I sound like a politician speaking out of both sides of my mouth.  The fact of the matter is that, as I said, the match is unsanctioned so it seems to be less than a serious match.  Secondly, this shoot is almost a 2 hour drive and I just don't have ton's of motivation to hop in my car and spend the day away from the family if it's not going to be run competitively.

I'm pretty active in IHMSA silhouettes so it's not like I'm new to the sport...it's just that I'm currently finding my interest seems to be shifting toward rifles and particularly those of the rimfire variety.

The same range also has a regular NRA Cowboy silhouette shoot which includes smallbore lever action.  I have scheduled a couple of trips later in the year as I've had some pretty good success shooting smallbore rifle as a side match at our IHMSA shoot.  We differ from the NRA game a bit because we shoot our chickens @ 25 yards, but all of our targets are 3/8 scale.

Bottom line is that I guess you've nailed me a bit because I don't have any excuse for at least getting some exposure to the smallbore rifle game.  However, as a person who likes to compete I feel more invigorated in an enviornment where it's not "just for fun." (at least in most cases)  There I go again...talking out of both ends! ;)
