Davei - Sorry if I sound like a politician speaking out of both sides of my mouth. The fact of the matter is that, as I said, the match is unsanctioned so it seems to be less than a serious match. Secondly, this shoot is almost a 2 hour drive and I just don't have ton's of motivation to hop in my car and spend the day away from the family if it's not going to be run competitively.
I'm pretty active in IHMSA silhouettes so it's not like I'm new to the sport...it's just that I'm currently finding my interest seems to be shifting toward rifles and particularly those of the rimfire variety.
The same range also has a regular NRA Cowboy silhouette shoot which includes smallbore lever action. I have scheduled a couple of trips later in the year as I've had some pretty good success shooting smallbore rifle as a side match at our IHMSA shoot. We differ from the NRA game a bit because we shoot our chickens @ 25 yards, but all of our targets are 3/8 scale.
Bottom line is that I guess you've nailed me a bit because I don't have any excuse for at least getting some exposure to the smallbore rifle game. However, as a person who likes to compete I feel more invigorated in an enviornment where it's not "just for fun." (at least in most cases) There I go again...talking out of both ends!
