Another .357 question

I'm sure this is printed somewhere else, but instead of trying to skim all of the old topics, I figured I would just ask.  I recently bought some 180 grain Cast Performance bullets, and I was told that 12.9 grains of W-296 over a magnum primer would be a good load.  I do not remember if I got this from Winchester, or from C.P.B.C., but I was wondering if this was max load, or a starting point.  Also, does anyone have a guess as the velocity this load will give me out of a 6" S&W 686?  Thanks in advance.

Cast performance gives the load data in each box of bullets. See if it's still in the box. Here's the data they have on their web site:
180gr. WFNGC W296 12.9gr.  or AA#9 10.7gr.

Looks like you got the load from cast performance.

Raging480:  the WW296 load for a 200 gn rn/swc is 12.4 grains for 1335'/sec, so your 180 grainer will be doing at least that, plus some for the additional 1/2 grain of powder as well as the lighter bullet weight.  HTH.  Mikey.
