Anyone out there put an after market recoil pad on their walnut stock from T/C or the Laminated ones from Boyds or Bullberry or Virgin Valley (pacmyer, limb saver, etc)?

I think I'm gonna purchase a set of Boyd stocks from Eabco, and would like to add a pre fit Limb Saver pad to it (so I could do it myself and save the $$$). I would like to know of anyone's experiences doing this and if recoil reduction was noticed.

Smoky, If you buy the Boyd laminated stock from eabco, shoot it first before you buy a new pad. I put a set on my Encore 209x50 and I was pleasantly suprised by the amount of recoil that pad soaked up. :-) When I first looked at it I was thinking the same thing, but that solid little pad did a fine job. A whole lot better than that flimsy vented pad that came on the factory synthetic stock. By the way I have a Stainless gun and it matches up real nice with the pepper laminate set.

Bought the Sims Limbsaver pad after shooting the shotgun barrel 4 times and that evening I noticed I was having trouble lifting my gun arm.

Installed it in about 15 minutes (really about 5 with 10 of tweaking) and shot it again. On this next outing I was able to shoot 25 times out fo the shotgun with no pain that evening.

Don't know how it can be so different but it is. Wasn't needed on the 209X50 but sure was on the shotgun. Overall, it also adds about 1/2 inch to the LOP when compared to the original TC pad.

Hope this helps in your decision to do it.

I didn't think an aftermarket pad was needed until I shot the Turkey barrel on my Encore. The recoil was brutal. I installed the prefit Limbsaver and wow what a world of difference. I highly recommend the Limbsaver. Just remember the prefit Limbsaver only fits the synthetic Encore stocks. If you have a wood stock you'll probably have to use one of the grind to fit pads.

Gitzit,

It is my understanding that Limb Saver now offers one for the wood stocked Encore. I believe the part # is 10030. According to Boyd's it should fit perfectly as their encore stocks are built to factory specs in the butt pad region. I'll keep you posted on this.

the limb saver pad is the best thing known to man i have one on my encore an ruger love it both i wish they would make grips for a ruger sbh ide buy one in a min

im 150 lbs an shooting that kathaden 444 with the limb saver on it an its grate

just use a hacksaw with the blade turned to cut flus and saw off the plastic rectangle molded on the back. file down the rough stuff left.
