Lyman #452630 - I Don't Understand The Design.....
« on: May 08, 2004, 05:01:37 PM »
I cast for .45ACP.  I had been using a Lyman #452460, but recently, I changed over to the #452630 to see if it's any more accurate.

This bullet has a bevel at the base.  What's it's purpose?  I don't understand why it's there at all.  How does it affect accuracy?  Anyone have insights on these beveled bullets?

The bevel base also allows the gas to be immediately released around the entire circumference of the bullet upon leaving the muzzle. This, however doesn't enhance accuracy but will prevent the loss of it due to the escaping gas canting the flight of the bullet.

I believe these are easier to cast using automated casting machines.  Seems lots of the commercial casters provide BB bullets.
