Bullets for the 38-55?
« on: May 08, 2004, 09:27:45 PM »
All you 38-55 shooters, what dia bullets do you use?  NEF tells me the bullets from a 375 won't work in the 38-55.

Quote
.375 bullets will not shoot in that firearm the bore is .373 and the groove is .379

This was a quote from NEF customer service.  My thoughts were to get a 38-55 barrel and rechamber to 375 JDJ.  $80 was the quote for the rechamber, but to no avail if the bullets don't fit.  My reloading manuals say .375 dia bullets for both.  With a bore of .373 and lands of .379 it seems to me like it should work.

Suggestions?  Thoughts?

Handirifle: We are just starting in on my friends' target model, but everyone I have heard  from uses .379 or .380 cast bullets for best accuracy. I will be picking up a 38-55 barrel for my Buff Classic, it is very easy on the shoulder.

That's what I was afraid of.  I was hoping someone was able to use .375 bullets accurately.
