:D Hey there hunters,

I think I will give my vote to elk when it comes to the four legged critters.

The wife and I have both taken our Ideeeehoo moose, and while they were both VERY tasty!, being mature bulls they were also chewy!! The burger was very good, but steaks/roasts needed the crock pot treatment.

However, we sure aren't turning up our nose at the whitetail buck I tagged this year!

Keep em coming!

My vote goes to Pronghorn.  MMMMtender and good.  I've heard of people who can't stand it but I've shot and eaten 10 or so and they were all great.  Elk comes in number two.

I'd sure like to eat a whitetail sometime though.

I've had To many white tails that were not well at all, now the moose from Northern Alberta shot in 2001 was some of the best eating I've ever had. As a matter fact, all thats letf is mooseburger and its still great in chili and sloppy joe's. Now, we are eating last falls black bear from Idaho, its made into salami and summer sausage and its also good. But, since I haven't tried some of the others my vote goes to the mighty moose.

definitely pronghorn.  As long as they are kept cool and processed quickly.  I shot a buck last year that was in the cooler within 2 hours of it hitting the ground.  And it was the best tasting meat that has ever crossed my lips.  My wife who is very picky about gamey flavor, also loved it.  The meat is so tender and flavorful.  I am disgusted with myself for not buying an over the counter doe tag for $40!!!!

I was a patient at the William Beamont Army Hospital for 6 months in 53 and the Hunters of Texas had a feast for all the vets of meat from game all over the world and to this day Slow Elk/Spotted Deer beat all, next three at the top are Elk,Bear,Boar.

I've got a buddy from Oregon who says that Spotted Owl is pretty tasty   My favorite is moose, although it definitely depends on how the meat is taken care of.

Blanks represent null data points...

Moose...............
grizzly...............
black bear.........
caribou.............
elk...................
mule deer.........
whitetail............Good
wild hog............Very Good
pronghorn.........
exotic -
Alligator.............Good
Softshell Turtle...Very Good
EDb. Rattlesnake........Tastes like Chicken

From my meger list above, it appears that I need an "Out West" and Yukon experience.  Not that that is going to happen.  No one has posted African game species.

A little late but what the hell.   Wild boar (Germany) Dam(n) good
Mule deer ( Colo) a little "saggy" for my taste.   Bear( canada) Had it
in a stew, very good.  White Tail, from a lot of different places on the east coast: Wife has cooked it for years...........O, so good.  Never had the others so i can`t comment on them.
I might add that gator tail is good as well. ------Bon appetit.

This poll definitely shows what  the most prolific big game is.  There is no way whitetail is better that almost everything on that list.  In fact its probably near the bottom.  Don't get me wrong its damn good but not near the best.

By the way, I never heard of anyone eating soft shell turtle.  Although the snapping variety is excellent.

Also, some near the bottom need not be...

For example I've not eaten barren ground caribou. I've heard it's not too good. When they migrate they run and run and run and run and run and run...

An exception is the woodland caribou of Newfoundland. They're stuck on an island, do not migrate, largely graze and are not overly high-strung (e.g whitetail). I believe they're pretty good eating - definitely better than the average whitetail deer and possibly better than moose (I've never had elk).
