45 colt dies for loading .45 schofield?
« on: May 11, 2004, 03:45:09 PM »
I just purchased a Ruger stainless 45 Bisley.  I plan on using it for informal target shooting and occasional hunting.  For the target shooting I was thinking of using 45 schofield brass for light loads with about 5gr of unique and a 200 grain SWC.  I have heard of people using the schofield for light loads in the 45 colt, with success.  I was wondering if my 45colt dies can be used to load with.  To me it seems like it would work, but I thought I would do a little research first.  If I can't use the 45 colt dies no big deal, I just didn't want to buy something I don't need.  Any Information appreciated.

some will work some wont. YOu will be fine except that some dies wont crimp the bullets. You may need to cut about .10 off the bottom of the seating die. No big deal as it will still work on .45colts

.45 Colt dies for .45 Schofield carts

Just my 2 cents, but I'd stick with the .45 Colt cases. A lot less hassle. Besides, like shooting .38spl carts in .357 guns, isn't there the problem with powder residue buildup in the front of the chambers, going from shooting .45 Schofield to shooting .45 Colt?jd45.
