Howdy,Ya'll.I finally got my mortar finished. It's a copy of a confederate coehorn I saw a picture of in a civil war book.I posted pics in the GBO album-gonna try to drag them here. It's made out of a piece of mechanical tube 6" in dia with a 2.5" bore.Had a 2"plug welded and pinned, then a 1.5"x 10" trunnion welded across the base.OAL is 14".The sled is a close copy of the pic-(eyeball,there were no dimensions given).I found some forged iron 2-5/16"balls that should give plenty of windage.I'm curious about how much powder-what do ya'll think 2@ 35mm film cannisters would do at 45 degree angle?Let me know what you think! Bob

The one thing the welding shop failed to do was "profile" the reduced powder chamber as i had asked-so its square bottomed.I've thought about having an insert made but kinda in uncharted waters.I'm confident its strong and would not be "legal" for competition, but would appreciate input from someone with more experience with such things.thanks,I am kinda proud how it turned out.Bob.
