8mm Contender Cartridge?
« on: May 14, 2004, 06:21:29 AM »
Are there any 8mm cartridges being run out of the Contenders?  I got a bit curious about this when I thought about loading 8mm Mauser and realized just how bad my Czech mausers hated light (125 gr.) bullets.  Then it hit me that a Contender firing 125 gr. 8mm bullets from a 14" or 18" barrel might be pretty interesting.  I couldn't think of any 8mm cartridges for the contender offhand, though.  Anyone know of any?

Would a 32 Winchester Special be considered a 8MM?  It would probably work in the Contender.

SSK offers and 8mm JDJ (444 marlin case necked down to 323).

I've never heard from anyone who owns one, so if you get it, be sure and let us know how it works out.

question on 8mm rounds

I think that JDJ does one on the 444 case and I also think that Reeder does one on the 405WIN case.  For a lower pressure round there might be a couple people doing it using 375 WIN ir 30-30.  The 8mm area seems to be a logical step from a .308 size than has long been overed looked.  The JDJ round gives you almost the same abilities for most game as the 375 does, except for the really big ones, with less recoil.  I'm not sure what the Reeder round does but it should be close to JDJ and some think slightly better.  Why not go down to the wildcats section adn see what the players think.

The only problem with 8mm cartridges at Contender performance levels is bullet selection........or better "lack there of".
