Ithaca Model 37 Review in American Hunter
« on: November 24, 2002, 07:07:58 AM »
One of my favorite and least appreciated shotguns on the market today is the Ithaca Model37 Pump, featured in December 2002 Issue of "American Hunter".

As a left-hander, I appreciate the bottom load and eject design, and I'm glad to see it's unique place in the market re-evaluated once again.  The original "Deerslayer" slug gun has been up-dated with rifled barrel, magnum shell length, and permanent mounted barrel for greater accuracy.

I have my grandpa's old 37 smooth bore.  I use it for clay.  But grandpa did get deer with it every year.

Now my kids us it!  It don't get better than that.

I need a mag spring for this any suggestions?

Great shot gun!  I did read the artical.

First time I heard of a fixed barrel slug gun! Super cool development. Are there any other guns with this technology?

Rich,

Try the original source...Ithaca Gun     http://www.ithacagun.com/
There are Hastings Rifled Barrels also:  http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/horizontal-item.jhtml?id=0017000212139a&navAction=jump&navCount=0&indexId=&podId=0017000&catalogCode=OD&parentId=&parentType=&rid=

I would suggest you keep the smoothbore and try different foster rifled slugs for better accuracy.  Two things to watch out for...........Leading in the barrel after just a few shots.  It will effect accuracy.  Keep the barrel mount screw tight so the barrel won't move!  Should get good 3" groups at 50-75yds.

savageT.....Love those Ithaca Deerslayers
