22lr ss target
« on: May 14, 2004, 05:32:31 PM »
Gentlemen:
Anyone have any ideas for a good 22lr single shot for target-type ammo (in other words, a target chamber) other than the Martini? I've heard of (but never have seen) the EA Brown 97D, and I know of the various 1885 repro guns, but don't know how they shoot. And there's probably (I'm hoping) a lot out there that I HAVEN'T heard about.
   Thanks.   jj

Definitely a whole bunch out there, depending on how much you want to spend, and whether you want new or used.
CPA makes a reproduction of the Stevens 44 1/2 in any caliber, and their .22 is extremely accurate. It can also be purchased with a centerfire block, and barrels to convert.
Of course the old 44 Stevens actions and guns are still easy to find, and a used one is reasonable, and accurate, if they are in good shape!
Ballard Rifle Co builds the Ballard Gallery #3 in .22 rimfire, or 3F for target shooting. Either will give you super accuracy.
This is my Stevens 44 in .22 caliber. It was a bit over $500, without the scope.
Ballard, the great American Rifles!

I have a “Cody” Ballard .22 Low wall that I had built to mirror my Silhouette rifle right down to the double set triggers and helm lever. It’s got a 30” #3 air gauged Douglas barrel with a match chamber that’s proven very accurate.

It “hangs” just like my “big” gun for off-hand practice, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite rifles. You’ve got to love .22s, no casting, loading, or brass clean-up, and I only clean it every 500 rounds or so.
