Good cast bullet for a Ruger Old Army C&B revolver?
« on: May 16, 2004, 02:41:27 PM »
I would like to know what would be a good bulet for the CB revolver such as the Ruger. I figure that an LBT style bullet would give good performance out of that gun.

Any suggestions?

Good cast bullet for a Ruger Old Army C&

I've had best results with my BB bullet, which isn't listed in my current catalog but is available if you ask.

BB stands for ball bullet.  It has a round ball nose and bullet base with lube groove, and overall length is the same as a ball.  It gives a bit more weight than a round ball with better bearing surface and good lubrication.  I fit them to the individual gun as with all my molds, and set them up with a top band that is a bit over cylinder throat diameter and bottom band a close undersize fit.  They are loaded the same way balls are, and shoot best with 3X black powder.  I've had poor results with pyrodex due to ignition problems.  The gun will shoot a bit higher than with roundballs due to the slightly increased weight and more power.
