Can't help myself . . .
« on: May 17, 2004, 03:54:02 AM »
I know that the thread "Some interesting thoughts/questions" has been locked.  But . . .

Stan the Man has a point.  He hasn't gotten caught yet not using his turn signal while making a turn.  He just hasn't been seen doing it by some sharp officer out there looking for any PC for a traffic stop.  'Cause that's all it will take.  Then the cop will notice your insurance is expired, your open container of beer in the console, the warrant you have for back child support, or whatever little skeleton you have in your closet, or car for that matter.  Not trying to be a butthead, but why give a cop a reason to stop you.  Maybe we all need to go back to driving school and re-learn the rules of the road.  Just because you haven't gotten caught doesn't mean that it's o.k.

And then there's the gun issue.  Yeah, if you go ahead and put a short barrel on with a buttstock in your own home with the blinds closed and nobody sees you do it you'll be just fine.  But step outside and into a public place where others can see, and once again you're tempting fate.  I'm assuming that Stan the Man is being hypothetical here with his post.  However, in my line of work (law enforcement) nothing surprises me anymore.  Heck, knowing what I know about Contenders and Encores you can bet that the owner and the gun would be comming with me and I'd be making a call to the ATF should I see someone afield w/ a short barrel on a buttstock.  Here's your sign!!!

I hate to throw religion into the mix here, but we have laws for people in this most free of countrys.  I am constantly evaluating my actions in daily life so that I don't screw up.  If I break the law I will someday pay for it.  If not now here on earth then later on I'll have to own up to it to the man upstairs.  I'm trying my best to set a good example as a U.S. citizen, gun owner, father, etc.  Either way I'd rather just keep my butt outta trouble.

I dont hink your off the mark at all Ranger413.

Lets face it, we see laws everyday that we think are stupid or useless or we just plain dont agree with.  Be that as it may it IS a law.   Passing without turn singles and junk like that is a whole world of difference.  There is not a strong and lingering group of people trying to outright ban vehicles.  On the other hand we have Handgun Inc, million mom march........you get the idea.  Dont be another statistic on the news "A crazed militiaman was arrested today and was found to have stockpiled 'sawed off' weapons and vast amounts of ammo....."  Remember, you will always be "crazed" and a "militiaman" in the eyes of the news reporters despite if your an honest and nice guy or not.

Yes you guys are right it is a law.  And yeah i was probably wrong for posting that. But apparently people don't make as big a deal out of things of this sort where I'm from. And mostly i just wanted to see how strictly this law was enforced in other areas. Oh and guys my bad I forgot about all these antigun people that will make a big deal out of nothen. I guess around here in mississippi us southorners forget about these types of people because around here everyone loves guns. but i must say my previous post was a rather well written one.

What I find amazing is after a moderator locked this topic it is ncessary to make an end run around that and continue discussing it.  On many boards that would get you banned.

Time to let this go.
