Beware!!!!!
I bought that book about 10 years ago and it was so fascinating it started me down a completely new shooting path.
After reading the book, I promptly bought a Marlin 1895SS in 45/70, and then eventually worked my way into black powder with a Browning single shot in 40/65 and then a Sharps 45/100 (with another Sharps on order in 40/70 Straight). I started attending black powder gong shoots and silhouette shoots.
All my varmint and big game rifles are sitting in the safe. I still like to shoot them, but nowhere near as much as I used to. I find I no longer have much interest in the latest .300 short mag, or long mag, or extra long mag, or super super short mag, etc.
Instead I spend my money and time on bullet moulds, lead alloys, making blackpowder lubes, etc., and my interest has shifted to all the old blackpowder cartridges.
Luckily for me, Paul followed that book with several others on the blackpowder single shots, so I was able to develop my "blackpowder career" with the help of his books, at a time when very little else was being written about those guns.
But even if you don't think you'd be interested in the 45/70, Paul writes such an interesting story that the book is definitely worth reading.
Thanks, Paul!
