Has anyone tried the less expensive VXII's, specifically the 6x18 AO? How is the non-click tension type adjustments for repeatability? Are these scopes good enough for the low budget shooter or is one better off in the long run to save up for something better?

Add Target Turrets

I personally would not trust the non click adjustments in a silhouette application.  I have two of these scopes and I sent one of the scopes back ot Leupold and had then install target turrets on one of them, problem solved.  The other scope I have not converted due to upgrading to bigger powered Premiere conversions.  If you are interested in buying one give me a shout and I can hook you up.

Troy,
I'm using one of the VX2's on my backup silhouette rifle.  I ordered it from Premier with the Leupold Dot system and with click turrets.
So far, no problems and this appears to have been an excellent buy.
Mine is a 6-18X.
New VX3's or tactical models are outrageously expensive.

We Are Agreeing, No?

Gringo I agree with you.  Once I had Leupold put the click style turrets on the scope most of my problems were solved.  The scope did not track with the slide type adjustments and they were in half inch increments.  For a typical hunting scope where you would not be moving the adjustment too much things were okay once the scope was dialed in.  I found that it took a couple of shots for the adjustment to settle in, especially in cold weather which happended to be when I did all of my hunting.

The optics are fine but I would have the slide adjustment replaced with for the 1/4" ( adjustments may be in moa,  I am not sure which) click adjustment for a silhouette application.

Perhaps a good deal on a older style VXII 6x18 isn't the way to go since money has to be put into it to make it suitable. I understand the newer VXII's are click adjustable and one model does have target turrets. The VXIII 6.5x20 EFR is what I really want but there a lot of dough. B&L's offerings are great but are too heavy for this particular application.

Thanks for the info.

Eroyd,

Have you ever tried the Sightron.  Granted the optics are not equal to a Var III; however, their tracking is as good or better than the Leupolds.   I have  2 Var III's one 6.5-20 EFR and one 6.5x20X50 LR.   Recently I was talked in to trying out one of these Sightrons.  I have to admit that it is a great scope especially since you can get them so cheap and they have an awesome warranty.

Just a thought.

I agree with chunter on the Sightron Scopes. Got a 4 to 14 thrown  in on a trade and you can't beat the tracking on it. After doing a little research I found out they are made in the same facility as the Weaver Scopes. Also found out that there scope adjustments are an improvement of the Weaver microtrac design. Great scope, great warranty, great Price.
