Ruger stag grips
« on: May 20, 2004, 08:10:33 AM »
Somewhat off subject:

Sometime back I bought a set of Ajax stag grips for an old model 3 screw Ruger .357.  They fit and look just fine but are too thick for my taste.  I contacted Ajax by e-mail and asked if I could due a swap or have them modify these grips.  I received a less than friendly reply informing me that they didn't make grips that are too thick and that my grips were made by Eagle grips!  I see now that stag grips are quite expensive.  I would like to keep the grips.  Anyone have experience in reshaping or modifying real stag grips?  These also have the Ruger medallion, which I would like to retain.  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your replys.

You can thin them down yourself if your somewhat handy with your hands. I have done many of them. As far as ajax goes, I have have had less than a satisfactory dealings with them myself. I bought a pair of of ivorex grips for my colt saa from them & the first time I shot it one of the colt emblems fell off & was lost.  I e-mailed them & asked for a replacment, they said that it was not posible for it to fall off & declined a replacment. They wanted me to send grips to them & pay shipping both ways. Instead of sending me a 75 cent piece!  Regards Mike

:cb2: I bought a pair of Ajax Buffalo polymer grips for a Bisley a couple of weeks ago, and neither side fit correctly. When I called the company I bought them from about an exchange, I was told that Ajax is having "quality control problems" with a lot of their grips, and that they were getting a bunch of their grips back. They would send me another pair, but didn't know if they would be any better. I'm waiting for my Hogue replacements to arrive any day now.

I just wanted to thank moderator Lloyd for his suggestion to send my stag grips to Scott Kolar of SK Custom Grips for modification.  I just received them back and they are beautiful!  Short turn around time also.  I would recommend his work.

I bought 3 pair of Ajax  Pearllitegrips from Midway, all 3 broke with less than 4 shots. They replaced them with a different brand, I bought a pair at a gun show last year, they lasted about 100 shots, cost $75.00.
