Are there any "collectable 45/410 barrels out there?
« on: May 23, 2004, 02:45:42 AM »
And how would I be able to tell if one of mine is one of them? I have two of the older style 45/410 barrels as describrd below are either one of them a collectable or other wise worth anything other than as a shooter?
Barrel 1:
8" long Octagon without external choke. 2 round holes on either side of front sight.
2" long rear sight sides solid
Front sight non-removeable
barrel markings 2 lines
Thompson: Center
Rochester N. H.     45 colt
(the 45 colt marking is sort of centered between the two lines not in line with either one.

Barrel 2:
8" long Octagon without external choke. 2 round holes on either side of front sight.
2" long rear sight appear to be some sort of scallops taker out of both sides of rear sight.
Front sight non-removeable
Barrel markings are identical to above barrel.

well there they are are they worth anything that i should'nt modify them? I am hoping to remove the real sight off of one and put a bead of some sort on the front sight and maybe one of those ols style pachmayr plastic barrel ribs on the barrel to make it simular to the newer barrels sold as 45/410 barrels to make it easier to use as a 410 barrel. The second barrel will be used strictly as a 45 colt or perhaps for 410 slugs using the sights on the barrel. Perhaps some expermentation with 45 mongo or other longer cased round for better accuracy if I can't get groups I like with solids.
thanks for any help

Is there any difference in the external chokes for these guns? I currently have 3 external chokes and was wondering if it made any difference what-so-ever which one I used on the barrel. thank you

Jim from what you describe those barrels are chambered for 45 colt only, probably not a good idea to shoot 410 in them.  If they are 45 colt only they are somewhat uncommon (you don't see them for sale often).  I would guess who could give you more info on if they are "collectable" is Ron at RJ's Guns (do a search to find it) or Ed K. at Ed's Contenders (advertiser on this form).  You know, you can find the old style barrels chambered for 45 / 410 for pretty resonable prices in quite a few places - seems like they pop up on Ebay fairly often.  Hope this helps.

No they are definately are chambered for the 3" 410 shell, Not only have I fired them in the barrel but both have the exterior shotshell choke on them. BUT both barrels do day 45 colt only on them no mention of 410 at all. I don't know why that is.

Hot shot?  What is a hot shot????     I'm considering buying a 44 mag barrel and the guy is telling me it's for hot shot.  I don't know what that is.

I haven't shot my 10" 44mag internal choked barrel yet.   Are they fairly accurate shooting the 44 mag solid bullet?  I was wanting to use it for short range whitetails 10-50yds.
