Rimfire Central gone???? :-(
« on: May 25, 2004, 07:22:55 AM »
It appears another great forum has bit the dust.  Rimfire Central has a message posted "Rimfirecentral is down until further notice. I will let everone know of my future intentions or involvement with RFC later. Indy"[/i]

Bummer.... not to mention I was a paid member as well.

What happened?  Was there a bunch of mudslinging going on?  That's one of the problems that sank the good ship MarlinTalk.

I guess we can expect another wave of 'shipwreck survivors' looking for a new boat to climb into.  Just like me when MarlinTalk went down.

I don't know what the problem was, could have been on one of the forums I don't visit, I guess. I've not seen anything that would indicate a problem, no nasty stuff at all, and I visit there a lot, over 300 posts since I joined in April.

EDIT: The answer is in the Open Rimfire forum.

I've been on there occasionally just about all day, and it's been working fine every time I've tried to access it. When was it down?

Why do you say that?

They banned me for being too opinionated. Now they can kiss my butt. :D

:D Evening Shooters,

I have wondered about Rimfire central when I have seen that something had been deleted. Just what was it and just how bad?

I personally have been pointedly blunt about a product which deserved everything which I factually stated, and have not had a problem with such postings.

When a product does not meet the claims of a manufacture, we as the end users should, and should be allowed to call them to task. That keeps the manufactures producing a quality product and warns the consumer when they don't.

As I said, I didn't have a problem with my comments, but wondered about a forum that seemed to state that negative comments might not be welcome.

I am all for a forum which keeps some posters "sewer level" comments in check, as the English language is more then large enough to get across our thoughts without falling to such levels.

So, I for one hope we do not suffer the loss of Rimfire Central as I enjoy the limited time I have to spend on the two forums I have signed up with.

Keep em coming!

They're not gone yet! The biggest problem right now from what I understand is the webmaster hasn't the time needed to maintain the site because of family health problems, so we need a new webmaster, if that doesn't happen by the end of the year, the site will be gone.

I started going to RFC about 6years ago when it was really small and ran by Giz and can tell you from what I have seen and talking to other guys the board has problems that need a lot more them just a new admen. It needs new Mods and some popping of the big heads that have grown on the board. I have talked with guys that have been banded from RFC because of problems with sponsors that turned out to be 100% true of more then one person. Sorry but I mod on another board and can tell you if some one had problems like that we may pull the post and contact the persons involved and see if we can fix the problem. That did not happen he was just banded no e-mail or PM even after putting down the money for a membership. That’s just one person that I know that has been banded with out any warning or notes. Plus some of the BS I have seen is some people get away with and others get post pulled is just not cool I don’t care how long the person has been on the board. So if it goes that way of the dinosaurs to bad I will not less any sleep over it as the site need a good cleaning out any ways.

I just got myself banned from Rimfire Central last night.  I will no longer be a participant there, but I wish the site in general no animosity.  I do hope that the membership can work out some of the SERIOUS problems that are running around in the background destroying the place.  Cliques of know-it-alls and troublemakers can destroy any forum quickly.  My temper was provoked, and I reacted accordingly.  Deleted all of my posts there (1500 in all, that took a lot of work), made a last post that wasn't very nice at all, and made an exit.  I had a lot of buds there, that was a difficult thing to do, but I have principles that I will not compromise.  If any of you guys are users or members of RFC, try to be good to the site, and stay away from the disputing crowd, the worse it gets, the sooner the site will fall.  I was ashamed of the way the Marlin Talk guys were treated after their forum fell and many made their way to RFC.  Hope I am not treated that way as I move on to other places.

I hope you guys don't mind if I add my $.02 worth.
RFC is a nice place, but it DOES have one or two big headed-big feeling-over rated-BS filled people there who are able to distribute misleading and deceptive information with impunity.  Then the rest of the posters are not even allowed to mention the fact.
Personally, I now read the Martini section and leave the rest of it to the self impressed and their followers.

Phil in Alabama is dead right on this. Stay out of the community forums. I just renewed my membership at RFC and naturally I hope they survive. But, I only use the technical forums. Folks like Phil in Alabama contibuted in a positive manner, had good info, and were willing to share. That's why I visit the the gun related sites. It seems like the community forums at most of the sites get the most traffic and also create most of the problems.

That's my $.02.

I agree with not posting in the community forums.I have been insulted at RFC a couple of times and a post of mine was deleted, but for the most part I like RFC.I usually glance thru most of the forums, but stick with the Marlin one.I think some of the people are very opinionated and need to back off and relax.I hope it does continue because there's not that many site that are that great.

RFC sucks! You can be opinionated on that forum just so long as your opinion is the same as theirs. They reap what they have sown. Down the tubes with them! :bye:

RFC still has lots of info available for those that want to learn without gettings caught up in everyone else's ego trips. With 14000+ members, they can't all be bad apples. Hopefully the bad apples get banned and leave the good stuff for those that appreciate it.

I have been moderator on RFC's On-Line Matches forum since the E-Mail Matches were started in January of 2001.

I have never read a post in the On-Line Matches forum that I would consider a flame starter. Everyone there seems to be part of a friendly family: Willing to share information on how to squeeze more accuracy out of their "Mouse Guns", and push the human limits of marksmanship.  They encouraging the new competitive shooter as he tries to hone his marksmanship skills.

In fact I don't recall seeing a flame started in any of the forums of the "Shooting Related" section.

Have you?
