Schnabel style forend for Encore
« on: May 25, 2004, 09:31:28 AM »
I currently have the synthetic camo stock set on my Encore and was planning on buying a wood butt stock and forend for it.  I figured it would just give me a different look every now and then.  Problem is I really like the looks of the Schnabel style one.  Turns out Fox Ridge quit making them due to a lack of interest.  Does anybody have one they want to get rid off (sell) or know anywhere that may still have them?  Thanks for the help.

The standard wood encore foreend is a Schnabel. You can get them cheap from midsouth shooters supplies.

Maybe I'm wrong but the old forends that got real thin towards the end then ended with a knob were called the "Schnabel style", I thought.  Similar to the Win Mod 70 Featherweight forend.  I don't think the "regular" forend for an Encore is not referred to as a Schnabel.  Please correct me if I am wrong.  I am not looking for the "regular" one but the older discontinued model.

I've seen the forearm you are talking about and I think they give the gun a classic touch.    You can always make your own.  A table router works nicely for the barrel channel and rounding the corners on a 3 x 3 block of wood.  Angle the fence and you can put on the taper with a saw or the router.  You can always whittle down the front end while sitting in the shade sipping lemonade.   A little drilling and chiseling on the back end and you have your forearm.   Oh yea, I  used a jig saw to cut out for the frame and contour the sides that keep the hinge pin in place.  I put alunimum nails in the foream screw holes of the barrel to mark the location of the holes in the forearm.  Cut them off so they protrude just enough to mark the wood.  I made a flat bottomed bench forearm  and it was easy enough that I may do a schnabel too.  It takes a little time but it keeps me off the street.  Good Luck :D

James,
You want a little work?  I would love one but I can't build a box!

DP, I have two of them - and won't part with either.

I had to search for mine, also - it is worth the search - the only shortcoming I have found is that a bipod cannot be mounted.  The swivel stud is up on the end, out of the way and is great for carrying.  Good luck on your search.

I bought one of these forarms back two years ago just because I thought they were being discontinued and figured I would want one sooner or later.  I have not yet used mine, but bought a 405 win barrel a month ago that will be wearing it when I get time.  You do see them every once in a while on Ebay and the gun auction sites.  Other possibilities would be to check with Ed at Ed's Contenders (advertiser on this site), Ron at RJ's Guns (do a search to find it), Mike at M&M Trading Post or just shop around I am sure there is one sitting on a shelf in some gun shop collecting dust that is waiting for someone to discover it.  Good luck. :D

When I bought my Encore back in '99 that was the forearm that came with it. I have always like it. I have other forearms that I use that are thicker and they feel fine too. I guess when you got a Encore in your hands everything feels fine.

Well fellas I think I found 'em!  I need to call them to make sure they clearly understood my email.  If so I think I may buy a couple of them, I think they said they had four left.  After I call them I will pass along the info in case anybody else wants one.  Thanks for all the replies.
