When will Ruger decide that the blackhawk (bisley) needs to be modified to chamber the newer stompers ie 475, 500 Linebaughs and 480 Ruger. So those of us who work for a living and raise families can afford a good single action in stomper cartridges. :?

I would like a 480 in a 4.5" Blackhawk. It could even be stainless with Pachmayrs on it. Until then I will continue to carry a 4.5" 45 with 360 grain Keith's @ 1089 and be very happy in our grizzly country.

What I want to know is why nobody but FA is making a five shot SA. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one all over a little five shot .44 special or .38 if Ruger were to make one. The .38 could be done on the single six frame couldn't it?

Ruger doesn't seem to be listening.  Since there is a market for custom SBH's in those calibers, I would expect that there would be a market for a factory gun for half the price of a custom. :?  I guess they don't think so.

Comments have come from Ruger through various channels before that after tests the thinned frames (to get in the oversized cylinder) do not hold up well enough to suit their liability lawyers (Ruger is too big of a target under the "deep pockets theory"), so until there is enough demand to create an even larger framed single action (keep thinking Super Redhawk, not Redhawk) the answer to the question is no.  That's why we are left to BFR, FA and handmades.

Yesterday I talked to a company representative working one of the Ruger booths at the RMEF's American Outdoor Experience at Bristol Motor Speedway. I asked when Ruger was going to produce a single action in .480 Ruger (I didn't even mention .475 Linebaugh or .454 Casull) and I got a flat "Not ever."  I asked why not and was told that market research showed there was simply not enough demand to justify the cost of engineering an entirely new single action frame. He told me that the .454 and .480 Super Redhawks required a lot more additional engineering than Ruger initially had anticipated.

So it looks like the BFR, Freedom Arms and various custom gunmakers are the answer for you guys wanting an SA in these calibers.

And it is all because Ruger is too darn stubborn to accept that a six shot isn't possible on their current platform and to make it a five shot instead. As many five shots of those chamberings as have been made proves it aint' rocket science to make one a five shooter.

Rugers attitude is making Reider and a few more filthy rich and making it hard on people who do have to work and take care of a family who would like to have a big bore monster. I sure as heck can't afford the prices they are asking for the custom jobs. If Gerry can take a ruger and make a five shot 480 or 475 or any of the true big bores why can't ruger do it ?

I proposed the same question to a Ruger representative a few years ago while at the Springfield Sportsman's Show. Basically he stated that the issue was the liability with wildcat rounds and that the cost of tooling for a small number of shooters wasn't worth it.

I know that we all would love to see a 480.475 L, 500 L on a SBH. It would be powerful and affordable for many of us. I'd get one in a heartbeat.

I'm willing to bet that Ruger is well aware of the market for these models.  Perhaps a drive to alert them is in order.  After all a loud voice is eventually heard.
I'm also willing to bet that because of the demand for thier current catalog of products, they're proberly not exactly in a position to start introducing such a wanted model.  They're far enuff behind on current products.

To tell you the truth, I could almost understand Ruger's reluctance to ante up for a .475 Linebaugh. That really isn't a monster of their own making. But the .480 Ruger has their dad-blamed name on it! Given Ruger's status in the world of single actions, you'd think they'd at least want one version of the Super Blackhawk chambered for their own proprietary cartridge.

I guess I'm just not smart enough to be a marketing expert.

Your right Blunderbus... Ever since the .480 Ruger hit the market, I keep thinking Ruger will put out a 480 Super Blackhawk any day now.  Even a 5 shooter would be great.  I don't understand it.

I am not smart enough either.

Guys Ruger will NEVER EVER put out a five shot revolver. They would see it as an admission the gun wasn't strong enough to be a six shooter and worry about lawsuits. It ain't gonna happen, not in this life time.

Graybeard, unfortunately I think you're right.  That's how you have to run a company these days.  It's sad, but the lawyers will eat you up.  Look at the one running for VP.
