We're testing resettables for air rifle silhouette. They promise to make matches go quite a bit faster. On the other hand, hits are not as entertaining; the chickens just flop back instead of taking to the air.
But when to paint the animals? If we do it after every relay, we lose much of the time savings. If we paint only at the start of the match, the first relay sees clean targets and the second relay sees dirty ones. Is this unfair?
Maybe we should never paint.
