I am a "New" shooter but silhouette is primararly suited for a shooter that is looking for a challange and one that loves reactive targets. Silhouette is a game that with $300 in hand you go go buy equipment ($200 cz and a repeatable scope)that the best in the world could shoot close to their high score with. (If they woud want to is another story, let's not get boged down for now). What I am saying is this, at the heart of the game it is 90% shooter and 10% equipment. IMHO if you have a rimfire rifle that will shoot ~1.5" CTC group at 100 meters off the bench you are ready for silhouette.
Most of the time we shoot at (4) banks of 10 "animals" each for a 40 round match. Small Bore silhouette is shot with a .22lr and the distances are 40M, 60M, 77M, and 100M. You shoot the animals in order, under a time limitation of ~30 sec per animal. For a bank of 5 pigs you get 2mins, 45 secs with 15 secs of that being a "ready" peroid.
If the animal you are shooting at (assuming you are shooting at the right # animal, they have to be shot in order) falls off the rail as a result of your shot it is a hit, if not it is a miss. The game is that simple, hit or miss. You don't have to wait to look at paper, you can see and hear your results as well as those shooting around you.
Someone will come along with a website that will explain more, but I encourage you to find a local range and call the match Director for some information. If he is worth his salt he will offer to "Sponsor" your first match and the whole thing should be free. If not give me his name and phone # and I will call and make the arrangements and pay for your first match and line up someone to shoot with etc. if at all possible.
Hope this helps,
George
