Any comments or opinions on .17 HMR in a lever action?
« on: May 28, 2004, 05:59:16 AM »
A buddy of mine has the itch real bad to get one. It struck me as odd to get  a varmint round in a lever action. But the more I thought of it, why not?.  just a souped up 22 rim fire basically. I see there's a Ruger M96, Henry Varmint Express, Win 1885 Low Wall, and Winchester Traditional and a Legacy 9417. Has anyone tried any of these?   Heck, now I'm probably going to have to get one too.

Geno in a recent issue of a popular gun magazine there was an article on the popularity of the 17 rimfire magnum. They stated that every action type (single shot, lever, pump auto, and bolt) is already chambered for it.
And went on to predict that in the not too distant future it will be the caliber of choice for the youngersters first gun replacing the standard 22 rimfire.

The 9417 should prove to be a very popular item. Good luck. POW

i've read in this issue of shooting tomes that the henry's action is cast zinc/alum. alloy. this is the same stuff that we find in childrens toys & auto parts that always break. please check reviews!
i would rather go with the winchester or ruger get a real gun & be happy.
if its worth doing, finish it!
