Bushnell Scopechief

Anyone know much about the taiwan or philippine built Bushnell Scopechiefs? I have read that the Scopechief is an excellent scope, and thought they were built in japan. The one I looked at has taiwan on the scope and Philippines on the box. :?

I have tested the entire Bushnell product line from Elite 4200 to the lowest priced and can honestly say I think each and every one is a super buy in their price range. Even the lowest priced ones are better than what the best was 15 years or so ago optically and while I've not abused them they seem mechanically sound and solid as well. All tracked well and were repeatable. I'd not be afraid to use any of the Bushnell scope line and think of them first these days when buying new scopes.

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that the scopechief was only built in japan, but apparently they were built elsewhere before the line was dropped.  Where would you place this verson of scopechief in quality compared to the current line? Thanks.....Tim

I loved my old Scopechief 3x9 however a few months ago it was damaged from a fall.  I sent it in to Bushnell for repair and I got a letter stating the scopechief was discontiued and they no long repair them.  I tried to find a replacement a gunshows but nobody had any.  I checked E-Bay and 3x9 Scopechiefs were going for $100+.  Thats a lot for a  used scope with no lifetime warranty that you can't get fixed.

Jeff, I see D&R has 6-20x40 Scopechiefs in their closeouts for $268, sounds like you got a good deal. Is yours a Japan built or other? The reason I ask is I bought a 2.5-8x40 Scopechief that is made in Japan, but the 6-20 I looked at was built in Taiwan or the philippines. I'm just wondering if the later built scopechiefs are as good as the older units. Going strictly by cost, I would say they definately are since in optics you usually get what you pay for, and sometimes, a bit more.

my scope was made in the Philippines and Bushnell said it has a life time warranty.if the scope goes bad they will replace with something.these are a fine scopes for the money but i think i would look into something else if they are going for $285.00 or so.at $199.00 they were a great buy

I just bought one for $205. The scope says Taiwan but the box has a Philippines label covering the Taiwan on the box so I'm assuming that production changed from Taiwan to the philippines when this one was built. It appears to be a fine scope compared to my others in a higher price range. Thanks

Jeff,

That's a sharp looking little rig.  What is it?  And H&R?

Zachary, you really need to peek in on the NEF/H&R centerfire board once in a while, one of my favorite hangouts since I got a .223 Ultra Varmint, very similar to Jeff's rifle with the same scope! The link below shows one of the reasons I chose the H&R. The pic is compliments of H&R.

Thanks Tim and Jeff.  I'm going to look into this gun a little bit more.  I have been told that these guns, while generally very inexpensive, are quite accurate.  I think it would be pretty cool in a .17HMR, or even the .223 like you guys have. :D
