A friend has a Winchester 1893 Date by ser no. 1894/94
We are looking for the appx value on gun and he had gun cleaned
not restored it is original about 90%.
He was also told ok to shoot modern ammo in gun :shock:
It  is a 44 WCF. I advised not to shoot gun at all.
Any info apppreciated.

Time to trot down to a couple of gun shows and get to know those guys with the nice Winchester displays.  Its probably plenty strong, but do not shoot it.  Even though made in the 1890's you are still looking at a fairly valuable collector piece, if in the condition you describe.

Nola:  I concur with Blackhawk44 and also believe that your manufacturing date may indicate a blackpowder rifle.  I'm not absolutely sure of when exactly Winchester began making their rifles in that caliber for smokeless powder but I would check on that first and that would tell me what loads I could use without possible harm or danger to either that fine collectable or the shooter.  HTH.  Mikey.
