Well back from the range (day-2) with this 22lr sportster.
and after trying about 10 different type/brands of ammo the best ive found so far is remington golden bullet bulk pack
you know the kind that comes in the green milk carton.

the stuff will put 10 round groups in a 1inch ring consistently @ 50yrds
all other brands have 1.5'-2' flyers.
they seem to be lower volicity than the other stuff ive tried so im going to try to find some standard vol. or sub-sonic rounds next.

this rem bulk has a bad rep. for misfires and i did have one to fail out of about 50rds.

TCall, I've been down your road with three different rimfire barrels in the last year, and looking back, I'd do it differently. All three barrels changed tastes and drastically improved accuracy on getting shot in. I shot up a lot of very expensive ammo in the process without getting results that meant much.

Since you've found cheap ammo that gives you very acceptable accuracy, I'd suggest you go with it for a while. Run a few bricks of Golden Bullet through that barrel and then do your accuracy work.

Something to look out for when you do get around to working with the standard velocity stuff is that not all lubes are compatable. The first few groups from a box may not be representative. Some real finicky folks clean between bullet changes. I clean when switching from copper clad to lubed lead, but when switching brands of lubed lead, I just don't put a lot of store in the first few groups. It often takes 15-20 rounds with a particular brand for it to start working well.

Took me a long while to realize that firing a couple of groups and going on to the next brand really wasn't telling me a lot. The targets I use have six squares and these days I shoot at least one full target before switching brands.
It is the duty of the good citizen to love his country and hate his gubmint.

DJ, Ive never really thought about bullit lube in that way.....but what you are saying makes sence.
most all .22 rimfire ammo is coated with some sort of lube....that would have to leave residue in the lands-n-grooves.

Ive probably got 150 rounds through this barrel now.
I think Ill give it a good cleaning between brands and shoot several groups with each to kinda test your theory.

Thanks for your help
Ill let you know how it turns out.
