Longer Barrel?
« on: May 31, 2004, 05:47:08 PM »
Hey there everyone, I was just wondering what the longest barrel is that i can get for a NEF Handi Rifle in .223? Can you get them from the factory or where can you get them. I also have another question, What is BC refering to a barrel. I saw somone posted somthing about a BC being 26 to 28 inches long? Just curiois. I guess it might not refer to a barrel at all but take my questions with a grain of salt as I am still fairly new with the nice little NEF's. Thanks for your input everyone!

henry1...go to H&R 1871 site and click on " barrel program" they will list all the calibers and the lengths that are available....the BC you mentioned is a "BuffaloClassic" 45-70 and it is offered with a 32 inch barrel length. BigBlue was just talkin about shortening his to 26 to 28 inches....welcome aboard by the way and this is a place where you can learn all kinds of things about your NEF!! :D

The longest 223 barrel H&R offers is a 24" bull barrel for the Ultra rifles.  I do believe it can be had as a barrel accessory item for and SB-2 receiver.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I have added a 24" bull barrel to my SB2 receiver thru the barrel program and it works great.

Does SB2 stand for Small Bore? Is the handi rifle a SB2 reciever?

SB does not stand for small bore.
Rifles are denoted as SB2 receivers, which are stronger than the SB1 recievers used in shotguns & muzzleloaders. A similar low strength receiver for the rimfires is also called SB1. The larger frame for the 10ga shotgun is called SB2, but is not interchangeable with the others.

Any non-10ga SB2 receiver can be fitted with a .223 barrel. The choices include a 20" ultralight,  22" standard weight (quite heavy) and 22" & 24" bull barrels (very heavy). I'd like to see the 26" standard weight barrel made available in .223 or 22-250.

You can get the 45/70 in either 32" or 22" mounted on any rifle frame made since 1987.

Yup, I'm holding back on ordering a 22-250 in hope that they will offer a 26" barrel in the future...Until then, my 24" 223 barrel on my UV will work fine.
