tipiguy,
It seems to me that I had a Bushnell Phantom scope in the late 1970s. It was a small diameter scope, sort of like a 22 scope. It mounted with a rail system that was built into the scope. I had mine on a Ruger Security-Six 357 Magnum. It was one of the 1st handguns in my area to have a scope mounted on it! It impressed a few people when I was able to hit a 12 ounce beverage can filled with water at 65 yards from a good bench rest! I looked for it but I couldnt find it, yet I still have it. It did withstand the recoil of the 357 for a good many hundreds of rounds. If this is the type of scope you are mentioning, there are certainly much better scopes available today. Mine did hold up to the 357 magnum until it striped the screw that held the base in place. This was the screw that originally held the rear open sight in place. Luckily, I was able to get a good smith to re-tapped the threads and put a slightly larger screw in place and I installed the original open sights and that is the way it has remained to this day. Good-luck
