Gentlemen if I use this firearm for 300lb deer in Canada < 150yds shot do I need to think about the 160 round nose for Maximum knock down or will a 140 gr premium bullet suffice?  I would like to have one all around deer load and I hunt smaller deer in the woods in MN and SD.  Therefore the Canada Buck is the benchmark.  If this is too much monkey business I can just use my 300 Win Mag, however the little 6.5+55 is much easier to shoot from the tree stand.  Thanks  Buckfever

Either the 140 or the 160 will be more than enough bullet to stop any whitetail on earth. You can expect the 160 to penetrate deeper but provide a tad less shock than the 140, but neither is in any way too light. For "knock down" effect in I would go with the 140 gr Sierra gameking - I have shot a couple of hogs (one 250# broadside through shoulder) that have gone belly-up before taking another step with this bullet. It has great shock effect and penetrates well, too. Have fun bustin' some of those Canadian heavies!

Buckfever:  I agree with the Huntsman.  The 6.5 Swede is an awesome cartridge and with the 140 grain bullet it will take any whitetail, moose, elk or stag I have ever seen.  HTH and good luck.  Mikey.

I hunt with a Winchester Model70 Featherweight Classic in 6.5X55. My son hunts with a Kimber Model 96 Swedish Mauser conversion. Both have taken game. Both are very accurate. We both use Nosler 140 grain Partitions. Put one of those in the right place, and any deer on earth will spend the winter in your freezer!
