I noticed on the Winchester web site that the Timber Carbine is now available in the .450 Marlin cartridge. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle and cartridge combination? They indicate that it comes from the factory with the pachmeyer decelerator recoil pad. What is the market price for this item?

Levergunlover - are you sure it is the Timber Carbine in 450 Marlin or is it the Timber Carbine in 480????? I have seen advertisements for the Timber Carbine in 480 but not 450. I think one of the reasons the Wincehster 94 is not chambered in the 45-70 (would be a dream) is due to the size of the cartridge (diameter) and the action. I think the same applies or might apply to the 450. I believe it is the 480 that was advertised. Mikey.

Hello Mikey,
It is the .450 Marlin for which the most recent Winchester Model 94 Timber Carbine is chambered according to the Winchester web site. A just asked a dealer about it and he says it is the .450 marlin and that they are currently available from distributors. Assuming that the information is true, this could be a North American big game hunter's dream. It should be able to take anything from whitetail to the largest Brown bear! I wonder if anyone makes true heavy weight bullets for the .450? Garret and Buffalo Bore have loaded large bullets for the .45-70 for several years.

Levergunlover - THANK YOU for the clarification. I'm glad I was wrong and agree with you that the Winchester 94 in a 450 would be a North American Big Game Hunter's Dream - oh yeah! I wonder if that means they could chamber one in the 45-70 - then I might up-bore from my 444s. Maybe (LOL). Mikey.

I think it would be a heck of a black bear gun.Wouldn't want to do too much target shooting though, it would have quite a thump. But- equally if you want thump at the other end, it's going to thump at the shoulder end.Maybe the recoil pad will help

That thing has got to hurt. According to Winchester website, the gun only weighs 6lbs.

Would be more versatile if it was a 45-70.

I like the fact that it comes with a good pad and the ghost ring sight, but would prefer a fiber pin up front.

Its odd why they don't chamber it in a 50 Alaskan ,or a 375win. or .356win. I'd try to change things up.( I'd like to have a .375 win.)
