Barrel/Frame Gap
« on: June 06, 2004, 01:19:38 PM »
What is the "normal" barrel/frame gap on the Encore with factory barrels?  I know that it varies, but how large a space is acceptable?  I remember reading somewhere that it will cause vertical stringing if the barrel and breech face are touching.  Would shimming the breech plug on the Encore be an acceptable means of closing excessive gap?  I have a 7mm-08 barrel that stretches the cases ahead of the web.  I don't have a headspace gauge yet, and I was wondering if a shim would be worth a try until I get the gauge from Brownell's.  I've also considered blowing the case shoulders forward by seating a bullet into the lands over a compressed charge of ridiculously slow powder, but it seems like a real chore.  Thanks for looking.
