I use 14 grains of blue dot with 240 grain hard cast pellets. It won't break your hand and according to the Nosler Manual has a velocity of 1310 fps. I always forget to run it through my chrono but I'm sure it's a bit slower than Nosler reports. I have a 7.5" barrel on my Ruger 44 mag.

If you are using an old Ruger "Deerslayer", I would avoid cast bullets.

My best 44mag load is Hornadys 240gr XTP .430 dia in front of 24gr W296 using CCI mag primers, Lee factory crimp, good to go, this load was worked using a scoped SRH 7 1/2...great accuracy,got to try it on a healthy young buck running bye me, I saw the direction he was going, I shoot with both eye open, this helps when shooting a moving object, scoped a opening and as soon as I seen him come into my shooting lane I squeezed, all I saw was a quiver of his flag going down to the ground, I knew I scored, the shot through the heart and lungs and a few small tree's behind him;) shot was 40 yards. Nothing feels better than to score your game using the bullet you built. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

That is a great story, I never hunted with my hand loads before, I guess next year will be the first time I do so.
