Anyone tried the Colt WWII repro .45? Saw my first one at the show today - looked great. My problem; I have a 99% Mark IV Series 70 Gold Cup National Match that I've never fired (got it very slightly used) that I've been thinking of selling or trading. On another Forum, the guys are not crazy about the repro - it's about 50/50 for and against. Would anyone here trade a nice Gold Cup for the new pistol?

Hay 191145 - DON'T TRADE THAT GOLD CUP. Buddy, that is a Series 70 GC without the internal firing pin block - which means it has a better trigger pull than the Series 80s and beyond.

I have read that the Colt repros are well fit and accurate but they sure ain't no Series 70 Gold Cup, that's fer dang sure.

If you don't want to pack a Gold Cup with its target sights, find yourself a Series 70 government slide that you can fit to the gun and put some combat sights on it. You will save yourself some money and still have a great combat/defensive pistol that, with a slide change, will give you the target you you can take to any match. By the way, with the Gold Cup slide, you can convert to the 400 CorBon if you wish and see which is the more accurate from that Gold Cup, the 45 or the 400 CorBon with range loads.

If you are absolutely intent on parting with that Gold Cup, please let us know directly or post it on the Swap/trade/sell forum and just sit back and wait for the bites to come in. Also, you can prolly find yourself a good used government model for not much and make that into your carry piece without losing that Series 70 of yours.

Mikey; You have brought out some good points. In fact, I already had picked up a .400 Corbon barrel, but I hadn't thought of fixing up a slide for the Gold Cup with G. I.-type sights. Yes, those sharp-edged Gold Cup sights are not meant for carry, and they will eat a leather holster for breakfast. It is true, though, that the WWII repro has the pre-Series 80 firing system without the firing pin block. Yes, I'll be keeping the Cup, and I've promised myself to take it out soon and heat it up. I may get a WWII repro later - there seems to be plenty of them around, and the prices may slip a little - Colt is getting ready to release another batch of them. Or, a good used 70 G-model. Anyway, thanks for the comments. You really helped me make up my mind.

Ha Ha Seriously, I've gto a m1991 and it is a good shooter, But it's no gold cup. I think I'd hang on to that one man. :grin:

I've got a 1991, nice gun, but isnce it is my first and only auto I can't compare it to others.

You know, I did sell that Cup, and got enought to get a 1953 commercial Government Model AND a Hi-Power!
