762x54R with IMR4895 or IMR3031
« on: June 13, 2004, 02:00:55 AM »
I have a Mosin M44 carbine (slugged barrel=0.310-0.311).
I purchased some 0.3105 174grn FMJ/BT Hornady bullets and IMR4895 thinking I had a load for IMR4895 powder. I didn't, the amount of grains needed was left blank. Would any of you have a load for this combination or IMR3031. For primers I have CCI, Win & Rem all Standard Large Rifle.
Thank-You

The Lyman Manual calls out IMR 4895 at a starting load at 41grains and max load as 45.5grains.

IMR 3031 is not called out in the Lyman manual for 174 gr pellets.

The 174 grain bullet that the Lyman Manual calls for is the 174 grain Hornady RN bullet.

If the accuracy isn't there with the 2 powders you have.
I'm useing H4831 with 180gr. RN accuracy is great.

Good luck with the M44 it was the best $80 I spent in a long time.
