Great scope combo on my 444P
« on: January 11, 2003, 03:02:09 PM »
I finally broke down and put a scope on my 444P. My eyes just cant pick up those open sights reliably anymore. I went to Wally World and got some weaver rings and bases, and put on a Simmons 4X32 compact shotgun scope on it. What a combo!!! A cloverleaf 3 shot group at 100 yards. I couldn't have done any better. I am not a big fan of Simmons scopes, but I have heard good things about their shotgun scopes. 5" of eye relief, but narrow field of view, but a good compromise. I'd recommend this set-up to anyone.

Cheers!

I like that idea, and am glad to hear that it works fine.  I might give that a try.  Right now my 444P is wearing an old Tasco 3X9 that has been on 5 or more different long guns of mine over the years.  What is Wallyworld charging for that scope?  Does it fit in regular weaver style rings size wize that is?  I gess that scope should handle recoil just fine since it is designed for a shotgun with slugs?  markc :-)

The scope is actually from Cabelas bargain cave. I bought it about 3 mos. ago and never put it on. IT was $50 and came with a couple of boxes of Federal 12ga. slugs. It is 8" in length, 1" tube, 5" eye relief. If you goto the Simmons website it is model# 21004. It fits weaver rings just fine.
Cheers!

I have a leupold 3x10x50 vari-x 111 with heavy duplex on my .444p. Looked a little top heavy at first, but the performance is great!. That big ole scope with the heavy duplex works great in the pre-dawn and dusk times of the day and down in the swamps. Dialed down to 3 power it quick on the jump too.

One of my hunting partners put a Leuopold Vari X I 2X7 on his .444P and loves it.  Mine still wears a cheapo Tasco right now.
