Pre 18 & or 17 Smith & Wesson.
« on: June 13, 2004, 04:39:34 PM »
I am having a heck of a time finding a decent Smith in either a pre model 18 or 17.

Anybody got any leads?

Any that I find are 1-1/2 to 2 times the price in any book I look in.

What is up with the used priced on these old Smiths?

(Guess I would not complain if I was selling).

By t he time a book gets from the author to the publisher to the printer, it's usually outdated as far as prices go. Try the S&W forum, they only talk "this" language.http://www.smith-wessonforum.com/cgi-bin/sandwcgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

Not to gloat, (well maybe just a little :-) , I stumbled onto a 39' k-22 , 6"outdoorsman this week at  a local shop . Action was like a swiss watch , bore bright , spotless finish  and it even had original diamond grips.   I thought it was out of my league until I learned it had been just reblued and was available for well under $300. Needless to say it came home.  Keep looking they are out there but scarce.
FWIW, it balances much different than my 17-4. Accuracy is maybe slightly better only because the trigger is so damned good.
