A 4-pointer (eastern count) at about 80 yards... a standing, off-hand shot with a pre-'64 Model 70 Winchester in .270 Winchester with a 4x scope.

Farthest buck yet at 138 yards.
Get as close as you can, then get ten yards closer.

I got two last year, a doe at about 10 paces, and a yearling at 30 paces, both with a muzzleloader.

My first deer (yearling 6 point) was taken with a rifled shotgun at about 30 yards.
2nd Season- doe and yearling 6 point both taken with Taurus .480, both at about 25 yards.
3rd Season, yearling 6 point taken by .480 at about 8 yards.
4th Season, 8 pointer taken with S&W 657 at about 35 yards.
If anyone is wondering, I am done shooting yearling bucks, and I hope to take more does this year.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Last three deer taken were
non-typical mule-deer at 320yds with a 9.3-64 231gr PPC-Norma
4-4 mule-deer at 140yds with 9.3-64 250gr Nosler Ball.Tip
4-4 mule deer at 245yds with 270WSM 150grNosler Ball.Tip
I must add that i always try to get as close as possible, since i keep my long-range shooting at the Rifle-range but the areas i'm hunting here in British Columbia don't allow you to get too close to the game.

I have only Bowhunted biggame starting my 48th year & have taken more assorted biggame than I can remember.  I have taken nearly ALL of them at under 25 yards.  1 deer at 55, 1 deer at 40, 1 Buffalo at 40, 1 Elk at 35, 1 Bear at 30.  I think those are all my long shots.
always thankful

Last one was a 5 point at 35 yards.....my longest was a 154 lb doe (no kidding) @ 200 yards.  My shortest distance was 10 yards and the average is probably 40 yards.

I shot a Caribou at 300 yards in Alaska in September 2004, and I just got a 7 point whitetail 2 weeks ago with my bow at 25 yards.

Dem some long shots   . That must be one heck of a rifle...to throw a chunk of lead that far and still hit it's target. Good luck to ya all.  :D

I took three last year all three were from 200-225 yards. All my shots this year fill be in that same range. Thats about as close as the prarie deer will let you get before they bolt. Last year I took one with my 257 Roberts, one with my NEF 280, and one with my TC/ Muzzle loader with 300 grain Hornady XTP bullet. My longest shot ever on a deer was 425 yards with a 30-06. That deer was hit by someone else first or I would never have taken a shot that far away.
shot placement is everything.

25 Yards with a Muzzle loader. My other two last year were at about 35 yards with a 44 magnum rifle.

With reports like these I've seen here, its kinda hard to justify a "magnum"!

Last rifle season all five were shot at under 90 yds.
The Question is my last miss? One week ago a nice fat doe at 15 yds.

Two on day after the other with a caplock muzzleloader
« Reply #57 on: October 12, 2004, 02:58:35 PM »
First one was a buck at 85 yards, fired with Sharon Trade Rifle .50 cal round ball, iron sights rested over a log.  Second was a doe the next day at about 35 yards.  Both ball went clear through and both dropped either on the spot or 35 yards from where they were shot.

Only a few more weeks!!!!
